About Sonya

Sonya is a young professional who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in Political Science and a minor in Law & Society from the University of British Columbia (UBC), and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Toronto (U of T) – Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy. During her time as school, Sonya had the opportunity to conduct various research projects for her department, including investigating Greece’s defence expenditures on behalf of the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy – Centre for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies. During her time at school, she also participated in and organized academic conferences, representing UBC at the West Coast Model European Union Conference, in addition to acting as a member of the Logistics Committee for the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy Graduate Student Conference.

Sonya possesses professional research and policy experience which she further refined while abroad. Serving as an Intern at the European Parliament – Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, Sonya specialized in the proposed Brexit trade policies and negotiations. In 2019, Sonya held a United Nations internship position at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Budapest Mission, where she supported and facilitated the capacity building of IOM’s services nationally and internationally.

Sonya prides herself on her communication skills and attention to detail when completing all tasks. To better engage in today’s globalized world, she is currently advancing her Russian and French language capabilities.

As a Vancouver resident, Sonya enjoys spending her free time at the beach and mountains.
